The Club was proud of the opportunity to sponsor a number of candidates to the annual Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) camp at Eleanora Heights

Phill Comfort relayed to the editor comments from two attendees.

"Prior to RYLA I felt as though I had goals and I knew what I was working towards. I have always been confident so never spent much time thinking about how and why I came to be that way. Participating in RYLA gave me the opportunity to find out who I am and what I actually value, and understand the things that drive me and the way I respond to situations.

"I personally believe that the only impossible journey is the one you never begin. I remember in the early stages of my leadership journey, I was faced with two choices: to sink slowly in the quicksand of uncertainty, doubt and fear or to leap into the unknown and embrace the winding road of upward growth. I chose to take a leap, and RYLA has formed a key part of my growth journey."

I personally believe that the only impossible journey is the one you never begin. I remember in the early stages of my leadership journey, I was faced with two choices: to sink slowly in the quicksand of uncertainty, doubt and fear or to leap into the unknown and embrace the winding road of upward growth. I chose to take a leap, and RYLA has formed a key part of my growth journey.
RYLA provided me with an invaluable journey to grow in my knowledge, capacity and understanding about leadership, particularly what it means to think global, act local and start personal. By connecting with community leaders and fellow RYLArians, I was able to engage with ideas, perspectives and realities other than my own, to develop strategies for dynamic leadership and to build upon my communicative and problem-solving skills. Altogether, I have developed a new-found insight into myself as a person and as a young professional.

Importantly, I have created lasting friendships with like-minded and inspiring young leaders who I can rely on for support and accountability along the way as each of us aspire to turn our passion into action. Now, I'm in a position to give back and serve my youth counterparts and community at large by advocating for the program and continuing to act in service leadership.

I truly am grateful to be part of a vibrant, diverse network of Rotarian change-makers and now see myself as becomming an active member of Rotaract. Thank you to the Rotary Club of Wahroonga for making this a possibility and for investing in the future leaders of tomorrow.
We will make you proud.

Thank you.

RYLA was such a safe space that allowed people to open up and become more comfortable with themselves. I personally feel as though the things I gained from RYLA will benefit me throughout my entire life. I have a clearer view of what I want to work towards in both my career and my personal life. Thank you to Wahroonga Rotary for the opportunity of a lifetime!

Kind Regards,
