This week Agricultural Scientist, Chris Russell, spoke to us about Feeding and Watering our Future World. What a fascinating and informative talk!
Thank you Chris. Chris has also provided a copy of his PowerPoint presentation. Please let me know if you would like a copy.
We also welcomed Len Stanley back into our Rotary fold, and inducted Chima Ezemezie as a member. It was great to hear Doug Reid’s introduction of Chima and learn of his passion and interest in humanity and humanitarian concerns. I have no doubt he will be a great asset to our club.
I was surprised and pleased to learn that the KYDS outing to Thenford Lodge gardens, the high tea and the silent auction raised $34,000. Those of us who attended had a thoroughly enjoyable day; it has reaped remarkable results for an organisation that our Club also supports.
On behalf of our Club, I attended the memorial service at St Lucy’s for Sahan Shahriar last Wednesday. Jo Karaolis was there supporting the Principal, David Raphael, and the staff. I have offered any assistance we can provide. At this stage, the school is coping day by day and everyone supporting each other.
Our Club’s Board meeting was held on Tuesday 14 November. Below is a precis of decisions and discussions.
The position of Fundraiser that Peter Smith has held was discussed, and the decision made to retain it. The Board will put a framework around it and discuss further at the December Board meeting.
There had been a request for speakers to use clip on microphones. This will be investigated further.
The PhD research scholarship application will be submitted this week.
Funds will be transferred from the Dharapani account to another RAWCS project in Nepal.
The AGM is coming up on 13 December. Nominations will be called for vacant positions.
Attendance at the District Conference is encouraged. Several Board members intend to go but are yet to register.
The goals for the Foundation, in particular the Annual Program funds, are to be reviewed following information on how our dues are spent.

Dementia is the loss of cognitive functioning — thinking, remembering, and reasoning — to such an extent that it interferes with a person's daily life and activities. Some people with dementia cannot control their emotions, and their personalities may change. Dementia ranges in severity from the mildest stage, when it is just beginning to affect a person's functioning, to the most severe stage, when the person must depend completely on others for basic activities of daily living, such as feeding oneself.
Dementia affects millions of people and is more common as people grow older, Dementia Champion, Tim England explains.
