Are we ready for the Big Dig?

Next Saturday is the Big Dig (that’s the best name we can come up with), a chance for the club to do what we used to do so well – a hands-on project that will raise us some extra funds. Through the offer of Carol Johnson, we are taking on a run-down garden at a house to tidy it ready for sale by Carol’s estate agency. We have been promised 10% of the agency’s commission of the sale.
A board was circulated last Wednesday and there are sure to be vacancies
It’s at 8 Wahroonga Avenue, Wahroonga, next Saturday starting from 9 a.m. and going to around 2 p.m. There’ll be morning tea, but bring your own refreshments if you wish. The jobs are pruning, raking, clearing shrubbery, and whatever else needs doing. There will be a skip. What IS needed is pool-cleaning equipment including a pump or two. And wear your Rotary shirts.
Bring as much of your own equipment as you can, including gloves, bags, et – but here’s a thought: Make sure you have distinguishing marks on your tools.

EDDIE’S HAS ANOTHER BIG NIGHT OUT
We have been publicising the St Edmund’s fund-raiser Eddie’s Big Night Out, which was held on Saturday night. Our club was represented by Kathy Freeman and Phil McCarroll, plus the Giacomettis, the Fergusons and friends. Ian Perrett made his usual generous donation of wine for auction. Rob G reports that one feature was the "auctioning" of school fees for children that the school is currently subsidising. Sufficient for eight students was raised. The total: $175,000 .raised.

COMFORT’S NICE CLIENT
Phillip Comfort reports he was designing an internal renovation in a multi-million dollar apartment on the waterfront in Neutral Bay. His client didn’t know what to do with a wall-mounted 50" plasma TV screen as it couldn’t be relocated in that particular room. Phillip said he was a Rotarian and could find a good home for it. He made one phone call to St. Edmund’s school and they were thrilled to accept it. Phil and one of his sons picked up the TV and delivered it to the school. It will be mounted on a classroom wall where the particular teacher has been hoping to have a flat screen TV for a long time.
