This week we welcome Suzanne Stanton as our guest speaker from St John's Uniting Church Wahroonga

"A special child is born--every day"

"As it will be Christmas time, and I am a Minister, it seems fitting to mention where our Christmas Traditions emerge from, the story of Jesus arriving as a baby. However, the focus of my presentation will be on the many other special children that are born. All children of course are special and a gift – but some children receive the label of “special” for other reasons and the gifts that they bring are not those expected by their families. How do we receive the gift of disability? Is it a gift?

Given the work of Rotary with schools like St Edmunds and St Lucy’s I hope this presentation will be of interest and will relate to the work of Rotary. As the mother of two special sons, one of whom has a disability that led to my life taking a different course, it’s a subject on which I have gained knowledge – not through education and books -  but through lived experience. It’s an experience for which I can now give thanks."
