Members and partners and friends of the Rotary Clubs of Wahroonga, St Ives, Turramurra and Hornsby District attended a showing of the new Australian film "Ride Like a Girl" on Sunday 15 September, 2019 at the Event Cinema Complex at Hornsby.

This film tells the story of Michelle Payne, the first and only woman jockey to win the Melbourne Cup.

The event was organised to raise funds for the Rotary Foundation and its End Polio Campaign.

Approximately 110 people attended, and were entertained by this thoroughly enjoyable new film which was directed by Rachel Griffiths and starred Teresa Palmer as Michelle Payne and Sam Neil as her trainer father, Paddy Payne. Playing himself was Michelle's brother, Stevie Payne.

There were a few tears shed in the audience, in response to the emotional upheavals overcome by Michelle in her quest for wins on the track.

Before the showing Doug Reid, President of Wahroonga Rotary interviewed the cinematographer of the film Martin McGrath, who gave some interesting background into the making of the film.

A thoroughly enjoyable afternoon!
